welcome to chapel missions india

Pastor Bob Caldwell, his wife Cathy, and Pastor Guna and his wife Victoria

Chapel Missions began its outreach to Indian children in 1989. L. Gunasekaran (Guna), who had been raised in a Christian orphanage in India, came to Boise to visit his sister. Looking for direction in his life, Guna wandered into Calvary Chapel Boise.

At that same time, Pastor Bob Caldwell was in India—in Guna’s hometown of Bangalore—praying for God’s direction about how his church could help there. Upon Pastor Bob’s arrival home, the two met. Guna moved in with the Caldwell family and began an intense time of spiritual discipleship. Before long, their hearts became united in a shared passion to work together to bring Christ to the slums and villages of India.

Since then God has opened tremendous doors to reach out to some of the most unreached people on earth. With amazing personal sacrifice, a growing team of native evangelists and pastors are planting churches throughout India. Their love for the poorest of the poor has also resulted in the development of orphanages for hundreds of abandoned children, including those infected with HIV/AIDS.

Outbreak of Persecution in Orissa

Added: 9/16/2008 by Melissa Bent

Pray for the Body of Christ in Orissa. Radical Hindus retaliate against Christians after VHP leader is killed. Thousands have lost homes, churches are demolished, hundreds are beaten, and lives have been lost in the violence.

Excerpt from Gospel for Asia online:

Extremists Launch Attacks Against Christians in Second Indian State

(9/15/2008, gfa.org)

"India is in a scary situation," says Gospel for Asia President K.P. Yohannan. "While violence continues in Orissa, on India's east coast, anti-Christian extremists have unleashed another wave of attacks on Christians in Karnataka, a state on India's west coast.

"At the same time, churches are under attack in Jharkand and other states, and Muslim extremists have set off bombs in Delhi.

"But we know that, in the end, the future is bright, because Jesus is with His church."

On Sunday, Hindu mobs rushed into churches and prayer centers of many different denominations in Karnataka, attacking Christians during their times of worship. The extremists then destroyed the church buildings and their properties. At least 11 churches were destroyed, including at least one led by Gospel for Asia missionaries.

Christians responded with protest rallies, and more than 60 extremists have been detained by authorities as a result of Sunday's attacks.
